Extreme Green Season

The Green Season Kicks Off

Just two weeks ago, everyone in the region was talking about the lack of rain we've had this year, but they seemed to forget about September and October. The rains over the past four days have been significant, and they could last until November 15!

I love this time of year—the real green season; everything is as green as broccoli, the air is cool, and the evenings remind us of the climate in San Jose with nights at 22°C! It's amazing how thin your blood becomes after you've lived several years at the beach. I can hardly take a dip in the pool after 6 pm because I find myself shivering when I get out of the water. However, the ocean is actually warmer during our two months of tropical rains, and the beaches are practically deserted since very few people visit our area during September and October. However, residents seem to be amazed by the beautiful surroundings, the density of nature and wild animals, and especially the singing birds, which are enjoying this time of abundance of vegetation, water, and freshness!

An abundance of rain is not really a problem when it’s hot; personally, I feel great during this time of the year, but human beings are never satisfied. Soon, I will surely start to complain about the excessive rain, desperately hoping for the dry season to come. It lasts more than 6 months, and by April, I will be loudly wishing for rain again. It's like this every year; we can't help but complain about the temperature—it's inevitable!

Another nice aspect of the rainy season is that you can dress in jeans and a long-sleeve shirt, changing from the routine of wearing eternal shorts and mandatory light clothing in summer. Last night, we had dinner outside; we were all wearing pants without feeling the heat we normally do the rest of the year.

Definitely, the season of tropical rains can be annoying for tourists, but for us residents and Costa Ricans, it is the nicest time of the year. It's a bit like when spring arrives in Canada, and everyone has a big smile and is in a good mood!
